How can I tell if a sex doll website is legitimate?
Four checks catch most fraudulent shops.
- Pricing. Legitimate vendors sit roughly 10–15% below factory list price. A discount of 50% or more is a counterfeit signal, not a bargain.
- Payment. PayPal or a credit card must be accepted, because both give you a dispute window. A shop that only takes bank wire, crypto or gift cards has removed your recourse deliberately.
- A written factory-photo policy. The vendor must send photos of your actual doll before dispatch and ship only after you approve.
- Verifiable brand authorisation. The shop should name the factory it buys from, and that factory should confirm the shop is an authorised reseller.

Why is a big discount a warning sign instead of a deal?
Doll factories set minimum pricing for their authorised resellers, so genuine vendors have very little room to discount — usually 10–15% below list. A shop advertising 50% or 70% off is therefore either not selling the doll it claims to be selling, or not selling a doll at all.
This is counterintuitive, which is exactly why it works so well as a filter: the offer that looks best is the one most likely to take your money.
How much does a sex doll actually cost in the first year?
Budget 15–25% above the sticker price. Typical list prices are $800–$1,800 for full-size TPE, $1,800–$3,500 for full-size platinum silicone, and $150–$700 for a torso. On top of that:
- Factory add-ons — standing feet, upgraded skeleton, implanted hair — commonly $150–$400.
- First-year care supplies — about $140 for TPE (cleaner, powder, mineral oil, repair kit) or $60 for silicone.
- Storage — $30 for an under-bed box, around $120 for a proper closet setup, several hundred for a flight case.
- Import charges — since 2025 these apply to US shipments at any value.

Do I have to pay customs duty on a doll imported into the United States?
Yes — and the widespread advice that shipments under $800 arrive duty-free is out of date.
The US de minimis exemption was suspended for all countries on 29 August 2025 under Executive Order 14324, and interim final rules in June 2026 suspended it indefinitely for merchandise arriving by every mode other than the international postal network. A doll shipped to a US buyer now requires a customs entry regardless of value, and will usually also pick up a carrier brokerage or disbursement fee.
What nobody can honestly give you is a duty rate: the tariff classification for full-size dolls is genuinely unsettled, so any specific percentage you read is a guess presented as a fact. Is it legal to buy and import an adult doll?
For adult-form dolls it is legal for private adult buyers in most Western markets — the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore among them — though tax treatment differs in each. Some jurisdictions should be treated as prohibited; Malaysia and Thailand are in that group.

Should I choose TPE or silicone?
One question settles it: will you genuinely keep up a monthly maintenance routine?
If yes, TPE gives you a softer feel for several hundred dollars less. If you are honest with yourself and the answer is no, choose platinum silicone or wait until you can afford it. TPE is porous, cannot be fully sterilised, and degrades if it is not cleaned, dried, powdered and periodically oiled. Silicone is non-porous, holds fine detail for years, needs only occasional washing and powdering, and lasts longest. A silicone head on a TPE body is a genuine middle path that most factories offer. How heavy is a full-size doll, and does the material change it?
A full-size doll weighs 55–100+ lb, and it is limp dead weight that cannot help you carry it. Material barely matters — silicone is marginally denser, but neither material solves a weight problem. Size does: compact builds of roughly 140–155 cm keep weight near 50–60 lb, and torsos run 5–30 lb.
Weight is the single most common source of post-purchase regret, and almost no shop displays it prominently, because it is one of the few facts likely to stop a sale. The 60-Second Finder asks about it before it asks about anything else.
Is the delivery discreet, and what shows on my card statement?
Reputable vendors ship in a plain brown crate with no product names, branding or images, and a neutral company name on the label. A full-size doll arrives in a box roughly five feet long weighing 60–120 lb, so neighbours will see a large box and nothing more; torsos ship in ordinary parcel boxes.
Billing descriptors are set by the vendor, not by the industry — so ask support in writing what descriptor will appear before you order, and keep the reply. A legitimate shop answers directly. What are factory photos and why do they matter so much?
Factory photos are pictures of your specific doll — face, body, skin tone, chosen options — taken at the factory before dispatch and sent to you for approval, with the vendor shipping only after you approve.
This single habit prevents the most common complaint in the entire category: a doll that arrives looking nothing like the listing. Approving the photos is your last easy exit from the transaction, so compare them against your order sheet carefully. A vendor who will not put a factory-photo policy in writing before you pay is telling you something important.
How long does an order take to arrive?
Two to eight weeks in total: one to four weeks of production, since these are made to order, then factory photos and your approval, then one to three weeks of freight and local delivery. Silence during production is normal, and tracking commonly stalls for several days at customs.
A shop claiming everything is in stock and ships today at factory prices is describing drop-shipping rather than manufacturing — a warning sign rather than good service.
What do I do if the doll arrives damaged or is not what I ordered?
- Film the unboxing continuously, from sealed crate to unwrapped doll, before you open anything. That video is the evidence that wins disputes.
- Note visible crate damage with the courier at delivery if you can.
- Document everything in photographs and contact the vendor in writing immediately.
- Use your real leverage: a PayPal dispute, available for 180 days from payment, or a credit card chargeback. Both fit "goods significantly not as described".
Never accept a partial refund in exchange for changing a negative review. That trade removes your leverage, and it is common enough in this category to have a name: review extortion.
Should a first-time buyer start with a torso?
Often, yes. A torso is a partial body weighing 5–30 lb that stores in a drawer or small case and costs $150–$700 — roughly a fifth of a full-size doll on price, weight and storage burden.
If your honest answers about lifting, space or budget suggest a full-size doll would become a burden, a torso is the cheapest way to find out whether you enjoy ownership at all before committing four figures. Buyers who start small and upgrade later rarely regret it; buyers who start large and find it unmanageable regret it often.
What maintenance does a doll actually need?
TPE: clean with mild soap and warm water after each use, then dry thoroughly — that is the step people skip and the reason mould happens. Dust with pure cornstarch monthly to stop the surface going tacky. Apply a light coat of mineral oil every one to three months to prevent drying cracks. Keep it away from heat and from dark clothing, since dye transfer is the most common cosmetic damage and is hard to reverse.
