Importing an adult doll into Malaysia
Tax and duty
Largely academic given the legal position. For completeness: a 10% sales tax applies to low-value goods at or below RM500 sold online and imported by land, sea or air, effective 1 January 2024, with sellers registering above an annual sales threshold; goods above RM500 attract normal import duty and sales tax at the border.
What customs actually does
High seizure risk, and this is not theoretical. The Home Ministry seized 2,295 units of adult products worth roughly RM70,000 in raids across Johor, Sarawak, Penang and Perak between mid-January and early February 2024, investigated under the publications legislation and Penal Code section 292. Selangor Customs seized contraband worth over RM700,000 including adult products in June 2024.
Prohibited regardless of anything else
Prohibited, as everywhere else on this site. Given that adult products themselves are treated as obscene objects here, a childlike doll compounds an already serious position.
DollScout exclusively covers adult-form products. We refuse to review, link to, or earn commission on any product with a childlike appearance, and we drop vendors that stock them.
Practical notes for buyers
- Our advice for Malaysian readers is not to attempt an import. Seizure is the likely outcome and criminal exposure under section 292 and the publications legislation is real. This is one of two destinations on this site where we say plainly: do not buy.
How we sourced this — and what we could not confirm
This page is built from government, customs and court sources, linked at the bottom. We could not open every primary statute directly, so treat section numbers and rates as a starting point for your own check rather than the last word. Not verified here: the current Customs (Prohibition of Imports) Order year and its exact schedule wording, and Malaysia’s 2025 sales and service tax changes. Customs rules and criminal statutes both change; the date on a source matters. If you find something here that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it and say so — that is the standard we hold vendors to, so it applies to us first.
Other destinations we've checked
Thailand
Illegal to import, with real criminal exposure. Open sale in local markets gives a false sense of safety — the border is the chokepoint.
Australia
Adult-form dolls legal to import. Childlike dolls carry up to 15 years — enforcement is active and aggressive.
New Zealand
Lawful in principle, but the seizure standard is broader and vaguer than Australia's — read before ordering.
